Eight Years of Festive Holiday Themes During the Bush Administraion

2008 is a Red, White and Blue Christmas at the White House in Washington D.C. Eight seasons of cheerful holiday themes have lit up the national treasure.

The White House in Washington D.C. is gorgeously decorated every year with a different festive theme. Spectacular rooms and halls in the historic landmark in the United States are colorfully decorated as a holiday greeting to everybody who enters the building and who sees the decorations on the website and on television.

2008 Red, White and Blue Christmas

2008 is the eighth and final Christmas for the Bush administration in the White House. The holiday theme for the 2008 White House decorations is A Red, White and Blue Christmas. The White House website has pictures of the holiday decorations and Christmas greeted from President George and First Lady Laura Bush.

America’s national bird, the bald eagle, is featured through the White House. The windows of the East Colonnade feature eagles carrying snow-covered wreaths in their talons. Decorative eagles are painted on presidential china, carved into furniture and into architectural elements.

Santa has delivered red, white and blue bundled presents into the East Garden Room, including the ever-popular teddy bear. Stuffed teddy bears became popular toys after President Theodore Roosevelt made national headlines when he refused to shoot a bear cub during a hunting trip.Teddy Bears – Over a Century of Soft Plush Toys

Barney Cam Stars Barney the Dog

Barney Cam, humorous annual movies starring the Bush family dogs, features the adorable Scotty dreaming of being a Olympic winner and golf champion. President Bush wakes him up and tells him they are sprinting to the finish, not sleeping to the finish, and he better get going. Barney runs off to help with the Christmas decorations.

White House Decorations 2001 - 2007

Every year the White House Decorations have a different theme.

2007 - Holiday in the National Parks: The 2007 spotlights the magnificent resources of the national parks in the United States. From the majesty of the Grand Canyon to the geysers of Yellowstone to the splendor the Great Smoky Mountains. National historic treasures are found from sea to shining sea. Ornaments commissioned for the White House Tree highlighted different national parks. For a touch of humor, the Barney-Cam followed Bush Scotties Barney and Mrs. Beazley on their inspection of the decorations and the grounds.

2006 - Deck the Halls and Welcome All: The 2006 Christmas theme was a tribute the historic holiday memories at the White House. Color schemes of scarlet, crimson and fuchsia accented tradition holiday decorated decorations with garlands and brightly colored glass ornaments. Barney Cam was a dogs eye view of the Scotties as they scampered through the red and green wonderland and posed with Laura Bush.

2005 - All Things Bright and Beautiful: The holiday theme highlighted the beauty found in nature. Simple, yet elegant decorations spotlighted fresh flowers and creations from the natural world. Color schemes were tangerine, hot pink and tangerine .Barney Cam welcomed Miss Beazley, a gift from George Bush to Laura Bush, as a new resident to the household.

2004 - Welcome to a Season of Merriment and Melody - The theme of the magic of holiday songs and joyful music features vignettes illustrating many of the season’s favorite songs.

2003 - A Season of Stories: Happy Reading Adventures.The holiday theme combined the wonder of the Christmas season with the magic of classic Christmas stories and have shaped American culture and captured hearts.

2002 - All Creatures Great and Small: Stars of the 2002 theme were all creatures, especially creatures who have lived in the White House over the years

2001 - Home for the Holidays: The holiday theme featured replicas of homes of U.S. Presidents.

HGTV Airs White House Christmas

Viewers can enjoy a tour of the decorations on the White House website. HGTV televisions a tour of the White House on December 17, 18, 24, 25 and 26.
