It’s come out of the basement bar and moved into the nursery. Believe it or not NASCAR is the latest rage in children’s bedrooms, from infants to teens, girls and boys. The racecar bed has been around for a while but it’s just been trumped by a slew of NASCAR licensed decorating objects. You can now get chairs, curtains, wallpaper, curtain finials, rugs, pillows, sheets, comforters and other room accessories emblazoned with your child’s favorite driver’s image and/or number.
It’s not hard to picture my five-year-old nephew’s bedroom transformed into his own little pit. But his two-year-old sister could also join the fray. NASCAR knows the value of sponsorship and merchandising, maybe better than any other sport, and they’ve even licensed NASCAR bedroom accessories for little girls. No matter what age or sex you can deck out your child’s room with tasteful, discrete and not so discrete NASCAR paraphernalia.
So, what if the adults in the family are huge NASCAR fans. Well, you’re not left out in the cold. You could snuggle up on your reasonably priced NASCAR sofa with matching pillows. The great thing about this officially licensed sofa is that it’s pretty neutral with a primarily black covering, small red accents on the arms and then a small NASCAR logo in the front. So even a family member who isn’t quite as happy about displaying their love of the sport can be happy with this furniture. If you’re a little flashier and want to scream your allegiance to Kasey Kahne, Jeff Gordon, or Jimmie Johnson you can buy a couch that loudly proclaims your favorite driver.
And, of course, if there is a sofa then there is also a chair, or two. Not just the typical bar stools, but comfy recliners. There is wallpaper to match, or maybe a tasteful and simple border. There’s even a NASCAR stained glass floor lamp.
Want to express your love of the race but maybe not transform something as visible as your bedroom? Then how about a bathroom? Whether you’re decorating your own bath or the kid’s there are all sorts of NASCAR accessories available. You can get shower curtains, soap dishes, floor rugs, toothbrush holders or even the toothbrush itself can be stamped with the number of your favorite car.
As NASCAR changes the face of some homes, especially children’s rooms will the face of NASCAR itself change? Imagine the large ads for Viagra and Budweiser being replaced with Enfamil and Toys R Us logos.
