Spring is quickly approaching but when I look outside everything is still brown in my home state of Wisconsin and the weather isn't always spring-like. A few little, inexpensive accessories can really brighten your home and make it feel more like spring inside.
Think about pillows. You can pick up some inexpensive pillows in bright spring colors. If you're a little more creative you can peruse the local fabric store and pick your favorite fabric for homemade pillows. And don't fret if you're not experienced at sewing, its very easy and pillows are one of the easiest things to make. You can take your pillow craft a little further and personalize it with some embellishments. The same fabric store will have trim you can sew or glue around the edges. They may also have some beads or decals that you want to creatively apply.
To add to the sunny pillows think about purchasing an inexpensive throw blanket or consider knitting your own. It will keep you warm until those chilly days leave for good and a homemade blanket can easily become a family heirloom.
Never underestimate the effect a handful of pillows and a throw can have on your living room and bedroom. If you still don't have the desired effect and you're willing to take a pretty dramatic step, how about painting the room, or maybe just an accent wall.
Paint is rather inexpensive and remember, its only paint. You can change the colors as often as you want to fit any mood or season. Rather than spending thousands to replace your furniture a gallon or two of paint can make your furniture look brand new. And if you don't like it, simply paint it again.
Now take a look around you home and see what is dragging you down. We tend to overlook the little things we place throughout our homes once we get used to them. Look at them with a fresh eye. Are your accessories outdated or broken or never used? Maybe they just need a little vacation and you could find some new knick-knacks to accessorize your home. Think about finding something that screams spring. Your local garden store is chock full of things you can use in your home if you just apply a little bit of creativity and some time. You can even bring some of your own garden supplies inside to spice things up.
Bringing little touches of spring into your house now can warm your home and your heart while winter holds on for one last hurrah.
