Installing parquet wood flooring is a medium-difficulty project. Most beginners can lay parquet tile in an average sized room in less than a day.
Parquet tiles are an attractive home flooring option. The tiles are made of either solid or engineered wood. Parquet tiles are usually cut for tongue and groove installation - just like other types of real wood flooring. Supplies Needed to Install Parquet Floors· Tape measure · Parquet tile · Adhesive · Chalk line · Rolling Pin · Framing square · Jigsaw · V-notched trowel A tape measure to get the dimensions of the room is the best place to start a flooring project. Selecting the parquets tile that will look best in the room is next. Parquet tiles come in different sizes so it is important to make sure enough tile is on hand for the project. Directions for Preparing the Floor 1. Make a tiny mark on the floor at the center of each wall in the room. 2. Snap a chalk line across each opposite pair of marks. This will divide the room into quarters. It also creates a straight line to center the parquet flooring tiles. 3. Begin in the center and follow the lines to place tiles - but adhesive should not be applied yet. This step gives the opportunity to adjust any tiles that do not center correctly. If the tiles do not look even at the edges this is an extra chance to adjust them before they are glued in place. 4. When the center tile is correctly placed it is best to mark all of the way around it, and pick all of the tiles up and set them aside. Parquet Tile Installation Instructions 1. Use the V-notched trowel to begin spreading the adhesive on the floor. The V-notches in the trowel should make little lines in the adhesive. The adhesive needs to be thick enough to hold the parquet tiles securely but not so thick that it will ooze out between the flooring tiles. It is also helpful if the marking lines do not get covered up by the adhesive. 2. Begin working out from the center tile – then set the tongue of each tile into the groove of the one next to it. 3. Press firmly on each tile so the adhesive can form a seal on the back. Make sure to wipe off any adhesive that oozes through to prevent staining the tiles. 4. If rolling is recommended on the tile boxes, a rolling pin can be used to roll over the flooring. Directions for Finishing Parquet Flooring 1. When the last row of tile is ready to be applied, carefully mark the lines to be cut. 2. Use the square for marking corners and any unusual cabinet edges. 3. A jig saw will be the fastest tool to use for this part of the project. Table saws can kick as they cut across the different sections of wood - causing injuries. Hand saws take a long, long time and cause tired, sore arms and hands. Parquet tiles are an affordable, durable, attractive, home flooring option. The tiles have the appearance of real wood flooring whether real wood or engineered wood is selected.
