Being essential elements of home décor, colors, textiles, and illumination can be used for implementing a wide range of interior decorating ideas.

In cold seasons of the year, when the weather does not bring many light and warm days, people are in a hurry to reach home as soon as possible – to warm themselves in the coziness of the house. However, autumns don’t seem too dull, and winters too long, if you feel warm and secure in your home.

Warm home is, of course, a result of proper heating. However, there exists another warmth – the one that lives in the light of the living room, in the coziness and slackness of bedrooms; it soars in the air, and hugs when you step into the hall having returned from the unfriendly outside. It can be created by means of interior decorating. So, here are some ideas on how to decorate home for it to be warm and welcoming.

Use Warm Colors when Decorating for Fall or Winter

Color has great influence on people. It can evoke various emotions, including the feeling of warmth or coldness. Though each person percepts colors individually, there exist common for all trends. One of them is that warm colors evoke the feeling of warmth and security.

  • Warm colors include red, orange, yellow, and others, in which these shades dominate. So, such colors should be present in the interior for it to seem more cozy and comfortable.
  • Beige, brown, golden, or terra-cotta colors may also be an excellent choice for a cold season.

However, dramatic changes are not needed – simply locate a few warm-colored pillows on the sofa, or change curtains on the window.

Warm Textiles for House Décor

Textiles are usually the most significant element of the house interior. So, changing them to different ones will greatly influence the overall look of your home. Renovate pillows, curtains, table-cloths, and blankets, for them to be thick, mild, and fleecy. Thick curtains, for instance, will both protect you from the outside cold, and create a warm and cozy atmosphere inside the room.

Fall and Winter Illumination

In cold seasons of the year people receive less natural light, and, as a result, use artificial illumination more. For that reason the sources of light in your house should be paid special attention to.

  • When it’s just getting darker outside, it’s better to use fluorescent lamps. In the evening, however, small desk or floor lamps, which give soft and mild light, are the best.
  • An interesting effect can be created using a red or orange lamp shade. It will add pleasant shades to the light.
  • Another good way to create a cozy and comfortable atmosphere is to light candles. Use candles in beautiful candle-holders, or in glasses.

So, for fall and winter a good idea is to decorate the interior with thick and soft textiles of warm colors. Small lamps or candles will enhance the effect created by colors and textiles, and will make the house seem warm and cozy in any weather.
