Out to lunch just won’t cut it in the interior decorating world. The best kitchen decoration schemes keep breakfast, lunch and dinner in mind, and the best way to do this is to select dinnerware that enhances and complements your decorating scheme.
Basic White. If you are looking for a crisp and clean feel in your kitchen and dining room, then the basic white plate will add class to your décor and enhance your sparkling image. If you’re a gourmand you’ll also love the way white plates keep the focus on your culinary creations. To add a little va-va-voom, consider getting dinnerware that is square or oval, or pairing a white plate with a set of brightly colored plates.
Fiesta Ware. A brightly colored staple of the 1930s, Fiesta Ware was a durable and bright alternative to formal china and became a huge hit but, as with all trends, it lost favor and was discontinued in 1972. Again, as can be expected, what was old became new again and people wished for their nostalgic favorite, Fiesta Ware. In 1986 this line was reintroduced and the popularity has just grown and grown since. Bright and sunny kitchens receive a shot of spirit with these classics (whether old or new) and open cupboard designs just beg to display them.
Heirloom China. Fine china has a place in Americana as these home luxuries were often brought to the newly formed states by immigrating Americans. Since they were incredibly fragile, these items were treasured, and complete sets that weathered the years were treated with respect and passed from generation to generation. If you’re lucky enough to own a family gem, then use it with care and reverence but definitely use it. Home cooking and family recipes never tasted better than when served on heirloom pieces.
Hip and Trendy Dinnerware. If you lean toward the funky and hip, or if you have children, then durable and bright dinnerware will bring your family to the table and keep things fun and exciting. Becky Ocasio of Interior Style Home has noted the popularity of French Bull Dinnerware is on the rise, and has this to say about her own set: “it’s aimed in the right direction when it comes to great color, beautiful patterns and extreme durability. My guests and my kids think it's hip!”
No matter what your decorating style, with the huge variety of options and selection there is no excuse for having mismatched, chipped, and just plain ugly dinnerware. Use department stores, the internet and antique stores to find the right accessory that perfectly complements your interior decorating style.
