Parties, banquets and special dinners take a lot of time and effort. Don’t neglect the centerpiece. Create something that is unique and interesting—a centerpiece that just might be the topic of conversation.
Stuffed Animal Centerpiece
Pull out a favorite stuffed animal and create a setting for it. A teddy bear on a doll-size rocking chair or relaxing in the midst of a miniature satin pillow is sure to make guest smile. Dress up the bear for the season—Santa suit for Christmas, year banner for New Year’s Eve, heart cape for Valentine’s Day or a special outfit for a birthday.
Elegant Centerpiece
Cover a small pillow with black, forest green or burgundy velvet. Drape a long strand of pearls over the pillow and pin a white rose in the center. To add height, use a bud vase or single rose vase instead of pinning the flower on the pillow.
Sparkling Centerpiece
Billow a drape of gold or silver lamé in the center of a white tablecloth, turning under the rough edges of the fabric if they’re not hemmed. Place a matching candle plate in the middle of the lamé. Use white or matching candles to create a sparkling effect. For even more glitz, sprinkle metallic confetti around the table.
Fruit and Floral Centerpiece
Fill a glass jar with cut citrus. Create a bouquet of complementary colored cut or silk flowers. The mixture of floral and citrus scent will add an extra sensory touch to the occasion.
Beach Scene Centerpiece
Place a sand bucket in the center of a large oval or square plate. Fill the bucket with sand and insert a candle. Scatter colorful shells on the plate around the sand bucket.
Colored Water Centerpiece
Choose at least three glasses of varying sizes, widths and heights. Fill them with water and squirt a few drops of food coloring into each of them. Arrange them on the table to add color and architectural interest. For a finishing touch, scatter shiny pebbles around the base.
Candle and Flower Centerpiece
Place candles of varying heights on a candle plate. Nestle silk flowers at the base, between the candles.
Mirror and Candle Centerpiece
Place a mirrored tile in the center of the table. Arrange a variety of candles in complementary candle holders on the tile. Sprinkle confetti that suits the occasion—hearts for Valentine’s Day, stars for July 4, snowflakes for Christmas or pumpkins for Halloween.
