Wall Cross Photo Frame

How to Make Family Pictures into Christian Home Decor

Jun 26, 2009 Christy Jones

This elegant wall cross is simple to make, and useful for showing off family photos or favorite scripture verses.

To make ordinary picture frames into a wall cross, choose five rectangular photo frames that have plain, straight edges. Many dollar stores and craft stores sell inexpensive wooden frames in a variety of finishes, or in unfinished wood that you can stain or paint any color you want. Make sure to use frames that can be displayed either horizontally or vertically, since you’ll need to use them both ways in order to make the cross. Avoid using picture frames that have wavy, decorative edges since these will not fit together well.

Although you can use any size photo frames to make a wall cross, you’ll need five frames that are all the same size. Be sure to consider the size of the photos you want to use, and the overall size of the finished cross when choosing frames. Most picture frames that hold 4 by 6 inch photos make a cross about 23 inches tall and 20 inches wide.

To attach the frames together, you’ll need super glue that works on wood or the type of material the picture frames are made from. Be sure to follow the glue directions carefully, and use caution not to get it on your skin.

Supplies:

  • Five rectangular photo frames
  • Super glue
  • Wax paper
  • Photos
  • Paper and scissors (optional)

Make the Wall Cross Photo Frame

  1. Prepare the work surface by laying down wax paper to protect it from any excess glue.
  2. Apply a thin line of glue to the short bottom edge of one picture frame, and press it against the top end of another photo frame. Hold the two frames together for 60 seconds, or the length of time recommended by the glue manufacturer.
  3. Glue another photo frame to the bottom edge of the second photo frame, so that the three photo frames are attached together vertically.
  4. Turn the other two picture frames sideways. Position one picture frame on each side of the vertical picture frames, forming the arms of the cross.
  5. Glue the sideways photo frames to the vertical picture frames.
  6. Allow the glue to set for 24 hours, or the length of time recommended by the glue manufacturer.

Once the glue has set completely, put photos in each of the picture frames, or write or type a favorite scripture verse on a piece of paper, using calligraphy or a decorative font, and cut it to fit in the frame. Hang the photo frame cross on the wall for a beautiful reminder of faith and family in your home decor.
