Having an incredible decorating scheme in your home doesn't have to be budget breaking activity. Here are some ideas on where the best interior decorating deals are.
For some, interior decorating is something you hire a professional to do and then you write them a big check when they’re finished. For others, it’s a passion. Finding just the right piece to compliment their room and express their personal style is a challenge and incredibly rewarding.
If you’re living with a limited budget, or just love finding a deal, then the following places should become routine stops for you as you create your perfect home interior. Finding decorating deals can be easier than you think.
- Flea markets – Many flea markets don’t feature home furnishings, some do, but almost all flea markets have some home accessories and decorative pieces. The really creative shoppers can even take elements and put them together to form their own unique decorative touches. Flea markets aren’t a sure bet but the right ones can be true gems.
- Antique stores – The key with antique shopping is becoming an expert in what you like and want. If you’re looking for a dresser, explore several antique stores and determine what era or style appeals to you, what the standard price range is and what features command a higher return. Then, the truly savvy shopper, begins the hunt. Start looking at antique malls where individuals rent space and generally no one is an expert on the items they’re selling. Or look for an antique store that specializes in something other than furniture so they are less likely to know the true value of the piece you want. Finding an antique decorating bargain takes work, but they work will literally pay off in the end.
- Garage Sales – Garage sales are hit or miss venture, but for those who love the game, garage sales can be a very exciting pastime. If you’re not interested in spending a lot of time going from sale to sale, looking for that one special deal, look for street or even citywide garage sales, this way you can hit a whole mess of sales in one morning. You’re bound to have at least one shabby chic treasure victory.
- Chain stores – Home Depot, Pier 1, Pottery Barn, Crate and Barrel, all of these stores have items designed to fit the budget conscious and cost hundreds, if not thousands, less than their high end counter parts. AND all of these stores have sales. Be diligent and use shop and compare techniques to get the best interior decorating deal available.
- Close Outs and Remnant Sales – Expensive fabric and carpet remnants can be incorporated into your decorating scheme with neutral inexpensive pieces to give them center stage and speak of elegance without the expense. Make a few wise and careful large purchases to add luxury to your decorating scheme, and to dress up the inexpensive pieces. Don’t scoff at a sale, a discounted luxury item is just as fabulous as a full price one.
- At Home – Don’t forget to rummage through your own home to see what could be turned into a treasure, whether it’s a dresser that needs refinishing, a chair that could use a new seat cushion, or a vase that you forgot was in storage, your home can be full of treasures that just need a little TLC.
Decorating for less is actually very easy, but it requires a little more patience, legwork, and research.
