» SHIRLEY3855 - Combining painted and wood cabinets

I only want to replace the doors on my kitchen cabinets, but do not want to resurface the cabinets. Will it look okay to paint the cabinets white and use a light oak door on them?
I am adding cabinets that are not adjacent to the existing cabinets and want to use all light oak for them without any white paint. We plan on selling the home. Is combining wood and painted cabinets acceptable from a decorating standpoint. Would the combination be detrimental to selling the home?

Funny you should ask that because I'm thinking about doing the same thing at my condo...different colors but the exact same thing!

It's absolutely acceptable although I'm not sure how it will look in your home so you'd have to be the judge there. Trust your own taste.

But you bring up a good point...selling your home. I dont know what your existing cabinets look like but if they're really dark and ugly and you want to lighten things up with the new cabinets and other touches then paint away. BUT if the existing cabinets are in good shape then you might want to leave them as is and save yourself the expense of purchasing the new oak unit. In fact you may want to instead offer the new owners $1000 or $500 or something for new cabinets. This can be a big incentive to home buyers.

It all depends on your timeline. If you'll be there for a while then do what you want but if you're looking to sell soon then save yourself the cost and trouble.

Let me know what you decide and how it looks if you do paint!
